Support Team Salty Dogs as they prepare for the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, on March 19, 2017. The march is a grueling 26.2-mile march through high desert, and most of our team will be carrying 35-lb rucksacks in the march's "heavy" division.
The Bataan Memorial Death March is an annual commemoration that honors the tens of thousands of U.S. and Filipino soldiers who were forced to march for days in the northern Philippines in April 1942 to Japanese prison camps with little to no food or water. Thousands of these men died even before reaching the camps. Survivors of this horrific march are present each year at White Sands, and this is annual event brings our military community together in an act of honor, remembrance, and intense physical challenge.
Our team consists of graduates of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, plus other veterans and enthusiasts who are committed to raising funds for the NYC Veterans Alliance, which is a grassroots advocacy startup that has been instrumental in changing local laws in America's largest city and making it a better place for veterans and their families.
We'll post updates here as the March draws closer.
